2 Day Event

GTR returned to Nairobi for the 8th year to host the East Africa Trade & Commodity Finance Conference 2016, which took place on May 10-11, at the Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club.

This year’s conference welcomed close to 200 delegates from all areas of the trade and commodity finance sector, representing 17 countries and 98 companies. The event began with opening remarks from Bonney Tunya, CNBC’s Business Anchor, whose keynote speech addressed a wide range of issues such as the economic drivers shaping the region, as well as the challenges ahead with regards to sustaining an enviable annual GDP growth rate of 6.8%.

As the conference of choice for the region’s corporate and financial markets, the event brought together companies and organisations such as KenolKobil, Nakumatt, UKEF, EXX Africa, eBiashara, Umati Capital, National Oil Corporation of Kenya and many more, to give insights into the current status of the East African trade climate, meaning those in attendance were able to benefit from valuable, first-hand industry knowledge.

“East Africa has, for a number of years now, been viewed as a region on the up”, said Paul Greetham, Senior Conference Producer, GTR. “With a strong banking sector, a healthy volume of private investment, increased intra-regional connectivity, economies with diversified assets, and national governments enthusiastically embracing digital innovation, the region looks set for an extended period of growth.”

Networking formed an integral part of the two-day event, with numerous networking breaks, an evening drinks reception and networking lunches taking place throughout. With so many opportunities for delegates to interact, there was the opportunity to create valuable relationships. For the first time attendees also benefited from discounted flight costs with the official airline of the event, Ethiopian Airlines.
