Mexico City acted as host city for the inaugural Mexico Trade & Export Finance Conference, which took place at the St Regis Hotel on October 6, 2016.

With full support and endorsement from BBVA Bancomer, Bancomext, ProMexico, ICC Mexico and more, the event brought Mexico’s leading trade bodies, financial institutions and companies of all sizes together to discuss, among other topics, financing needs for Mexican exporters, the effects of energy reforms on the market and the influence initiatives such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Pacific Alliance will have on the country’s trade flows.

The one-day conference welcomed close to 140 business leaders and provided extensive networking opportunities for domestic, regional and international financial institutions; local SMEs and global corporates; policy makers; lawyers and specialist trade finance experts.

An opening keynote address from Arnoldo López Marmolejo, Chief Economist, Macroeconomic Analysis, BBVA Bancomer, outlined the recent government reforms, highlighting plans to attract greater levels of foreign direct investment, with particular focus on the energy and electricity sectors and the opportunities these present to the wider Americas region.

“There is much to discuss in a market as vibrant as Mexico,” says Rosie Madderson, producer of the conference. “From reflections on the Round One tender for energy reform to discussions on the significance of free trade agreements, there were many developments to address at the conference, not least the opportunities to be found in a wide range of sectors, from automotives to agroindustry.”
