TD Securities bolsters trade credit offering with Varney hire

TD Securities has hired former Bondaval and Wells Fargo executive Lisa Varney as a director, overseeing trade and working capital products as well as credit insurance programmes.

New York-based Varney joined TD Securities last month from insurtech company Bondaval, where she was head of business development for the Americas.

She previously spent 10 years at Wells Fargo’s corporate and investment bank, where she served as senior vice-president and head of credit risk insurance, and has held senior roles at Marsh and Willis Towers Watson.

Varney is also vice-chair of the International Trade and Forfaiting Association’s Americas advisory board.

At TD Securities, the capital markets arm of Toronto-headquartered TD Bank Group, Varney is tasked with developing and expanding the firm’s trade credit insurance capabilities and risk mitigation programmes across trade products.

The newly created role sits within the firm’s global transaction banking division, and Varney reports to Jordane Rollin, who was appointed managing director and head of trade finance and working capital product management in February last year.

“With over 25 years of experience as a broker, insurer, developer and buyer of credit risk mitigation products, Lisa brings a wealth of expertise in this segment,” Rollin told GTR.

“Her unique perspective encompasses all sides of the trade credit insurance ecosystem, making her invaluable to both our clients and our strategic products initiatives.”
