India’s trade finance community gather in Mumbai for major trade conference

Global Trade Review (GTR), the leading publication for the trade, commodity and export finance community, was delighted to return to Mumbai to host the India Trade & Export Finance Conference 2016, which took place at the Taj Lands End on February 2.

Marking its 13th year, the conference attracted 219 business leaders and provide extensive networking opportunities for domestic, regional and international financial institutions, global corporates and SMEs, policy makers and specialist trade finance experts.

The event commenced with a keynote address from Ajay Sahai, Director General, Federation of India Export Organisations (FIEO), outlining Making India an export success story, followed by a further keynote presentation from Fred Hochberg, Chairman, President, Export Import Bank of the United States, focusing on the importance of export credit agencies in India. The day continued with various high level discussions featuring prominent corporates such as Origo Commodities, Essar Group, Olam International, Gemini Corporation and GKC projects.

“At present we are seeing a huge drive in India towards Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Make In India’ initiative, which makes the timing of the event hugely significant in highlighting the importance of conducting business in the market,” says Rosie Madderson, producer of the conference. “This event has received continued support from key players in the market and we look forward to continuing introducing the opportunities and potential that India holds for many years to come.”
Topics for discussion included tackling trade risk, developing infrastructure projects, the impact of warehousing on commodity finance, trade digitisation in the Indian market and the role of SMEs and MSMEs in fuelling India’s growth.

With so many high-level delegates in attendance, networking formed a key feature throughout. With a networking lunch, an evening drinks reception and specific networking platforms, there was ample opportunity for anyone serious about doing business in the region to create new business contacts and build relationships with the market’s main players.
