The Nick Kilhams Foundation

The Nick Kilhams Foundation

GTR is delighted to support The Nick Kilhams Foundation from the event will go to supporting this charity and their incredible initiative.

Nick Kilhams was a well-known Political Risk & Credit underwriter at Chaucer and Chair of the LMA’s Non-Marine Committee (2012-2020). Tragically, Nick died by suicide in May 2021.  This was his second attempt in under 4 weeks. His family and friends knew nothing of the struggle he had wrestled with for many years prior.

The Nick Kilhams Foundation (The NKF) was set up as a registered charity in 2021 with the aim of destigmatising mental health challenges amongst the London Insurance Market and raising funds to provide mental health support to those struggling.

To date we have partnered with the following charities, James’ Place, The Listening Place, R;pple Suicide Prevention and Suicide & Co, providing counselling, advice, and support to those who are suicidal or who have been impacted by suicide.

In 2022 we funded a professional mental wellbeing survey of the London Political Risk and Credit Insurance Market, which gave us sobering insights into the significant mental health issues faced by our community.  As informed by the findings of the survey, we created some NKF social clubs, providing regular opportunities for members of our market to connect in an informal atmosphere and we have hosted a mental wellbeing workshop for members of the London Insurance Market.
