Global Trade Review (GTR), the world’s leading trade, export and commodity finance publication was delighted that Hamburg once again hosted the annual Europe Trade & Export Finance conference on May 6.

The conference was organised with the support of leading European and global financial institutions such as HSH Nordbank, Credit Agricole CIB, Commerzbank, BNY Mellon, Alfa Bank, Arthur J. Gallagher and AIG, and also benefitted from official support from Euler Hermes, as host export credit agency. Having established itself as the leading trade and export finance event for the European market, key insight was provided by leading companies from across a range of countries, including leading multinationals such as Bayer, Huawei, ABB and Orange to name just a few, as well as a host of prominent German trading companies.

The conference incorporated a format that took in various streams, break-outs, workshops and networking segments, and placed a strong emphasis on the varying dynamics and key challenges within European trade and export finance, with around 200 leading delegates in attendance, made up from the corporate, banking, insurance, legal and export credit sectors.

“With much having gone on in the market over the last year, gathering the community together provided the perfect opportunity to discuss the many challenges and developments that are bringing about what many have described as ‘a new normal’,” said Jeff Ando, Associate Director & Head of Conference Production at GTR.

“Whether it’s heightened regulation, the impact of sanctions, non-bank finance or the changes in the use of private insurance/export, there is clearly much to consider, whilst the opportunities provided in a range of markets from Asia to Africa to Emerging Europe serve to demonstrate the constantly evolving nature of the global trade and export finance world. Events like this serve a key purpose in this,” he added.

With the number of key figures that attended, strong focus was placed on the importance of networking, with various breaks and social events built into the programme, including an evening networking reception, which gave delegates the opportunities to both build new relationships and renew existing ones.
