AIG are hiring a Senior Credit Underwriter to provide strong resource in structuring and underwriting trade transactions to enable fast but selective growth to further develop global supply chain finance and trade finance existing businesses and also to develop new products.

Main duties/Accountabilities/Key Performance Indicators:


• Take full ownership for the end to end credit underwriting, detailed financial analysis, pricing and ORR rating on deals up to $200m single risk exposure (including obtaining credit committee approvals where required) to achieve no higher than a 5% loss ratio
• Perform comprehensive risk and commercial underwriting including analysing structural risks and mitigants, reserves/ deductible sufficiency, eligibility criteria and trade life cycle/ working capital needs in relation to buyers and seller risks in trade and supply chain finance transactions including large trade finance portfolio transactions
• Build targeted pipeline of trade and supply chain finance buyers and sellers for AIG trade products working closely with AIG client distribution, AIG new business and brokers
• Complete insurance quotations and transaction summaries/ credit memoranda for internal stakeholders
• Perform site visits for due diligence and monitoring purposes
• Take ownership of the monitoring of live trade transactions including structural changes, endorsements and renewals particularly on credit analysis and changes including monitoring aggregate exposures
• Collect of monthly / quarterly risk information direct from buyers and sellers including monitoring technology to do the same
• Liaise closely with trade product transactors, trade legal, risk/ commercial underwriters, credit committees to obtain appropriate approvals and validate structures
• Review policy and transactional documentation in conjunction with legal to protect AIG’s interests and meet client requirements
• Support transactional due diligence and structuring of trade finance-related term sheets, facility and collateral documentation, operational and technology processes, eligibility criteria checks and other due diligence reports from a commercial and risk perspective
• Liaise with relevant AIG business departments (tax, accounting, compliance, onboarding, legal, new product development, vendor/ business partner onboarding, operations) on transactions
• Ensure policies and risks remain compliant with AIG underwriting guidelines, audit requirements, processes and procedures including peer reviews

Strategic product development and communications:

• Manage certain broker relationships and communications of trade-specific products
• Support to identify and develop client-focussed products and strategies for variety of clients (banks, alternative funders and other financiers) including cross-sell opportunities
• Support origination strategies and engage with prospects including managing certain client relationships
• Engage with and support sales initiatives and development of communications for brokers, banks, and other distribution stakeholders
• Prepare succinct summaries and high level data on premium earned, loss ratios to support communication of business growth for onwards distribution to AIG senior management and investors

Competencies and experience

• Experienced commercial and risk underwriter with extensive experience in deep financial and commercial insurance analysis on buyers and sellers within trade transactions including cash flow statements, working capital
• Strong transactional experience in trade finance insurance products including broad spectrum of trade products (receivables, confirmed payables, supply chain finance, guarantees, letters of credit, trade loans etc.)
• Able to deal with complex, bespoke and challenging credit underwriting
• Ambitious individual who is commercially focussed and able to present to CFOs, treasurers, investors and banks; thrives in client-facing role
• Experience using highest risk authority whilst still able to engage with committee requirements
• Experience in driving trade product sales to corporates and/or financiers
• Ability to use and monitor technology to support role
• Strong communication skills, written and oral, presentations
• Ability to distil accounts, financial and written information
• Organisational skills and project management
• Ability to manage time pressure, deadlines and competing tasks/ prioritise
• Ability to handle a varied workload in a diverse and growing portfolio.
• Proven decision making skills
• Interpersonal skills – team player with internal and external stakeholders/ clients
• Languages helpful, ability to engage with diverse, global teams
• Willingness to travel, particularly in Europe but could be globally
• Analytical thinker and self-motivated to manage several large new business projects at once, whilst dealing with existing transactions.
• Knowledge of Basel III and IFRS/ accounting international regulatory guidelines
• Business acumen
• Ability to work in a changing environment

Technical skills & knowledge

• Expertise in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and price forecasting
• Competent in IT packages and institutional systems
