The Trade Business Development team has global sales responsibility for working with corporates and FIs to develop and promote the global trade business franchise. The HK Trade Business Development role is primarily responsible for soliciting new trade businesses from corporates (exporter marketing), as well as for helping Treasury Services relationship managers to promote trade correspondent banking programs to their institutional clients. This position requires strong sales skills and an ability to create and implement a calling program, to promote trade solutions to existing clients and develop new business relationships, in order to meet individual sales targets. The role will report directly to the Asia Pacific Trade Business Development Head based in Singapore. Being a senior member of the APAC team, this role will include some regional responsibilities and may involve occasional business travel.
Good teamwork is required with in-country colleagues, regional peers and members of the Global Trade team, to cross-sell trade solutions within APAC and across the world. In collaboration with Trade Product, Treasury Services relationship managers, Trade Operations and other regional colleagues, the individual will develop and implement strategies for achieving the Global Trade business’ financial targets. Close interaction with Risk, Compliance and Legal is also important in maintaining portfolio soundness and ensuring that deals are executed within approved parameters.
The ability to develop and articulate industry and client strategies within the trade finance space is extremely important, as is having an understanding of the global markets and the role that international trade plays for businesses around the world. Moreover, strong analytical and solution development skills will be required, to match client needs with appropriate trade services solutions, utilizing data to support those decisions. Deep technical trade services knowledge, including credit and documentary skills, required to develop and service key client relationships effectively.

This is a “front office” role with significant interaction with key clients. Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills are required. Proficiency in English, Chinese and Cantonese are desired. The role requires broad representation of the business in external and internal situations, including industry conferences. Good social skills, global acumen and cultural sensitivity required. The candidate should also be very self-motivated, having the ability to work independently, and have extensive (10 years plus) experience developing and sourcing new trade business opportunities within a specific business segment or portfolio.
