BP are looking for a Structured Trade Finance Specialist to join the Structured Trade Finance team within BP’s supply and trading business (IST). The team facilitates business growth by partnering with credit, trading, and origination teams to execute risk cover and liquidity transaction (e.g. trade credit insurance), as well as structure more complex short term (< 1 year) transactions utilising credit risk mitigation products and various financing solutions to support working capital optimisation and risk distribution.

In this role you will focus on the support of the forward-looking growth aspirations of IST, which leans more heavily on higher-risk geographies and counterparties, integrated financing structures, and the need for stronger credit risk distribution capabilities. You will also build enduring relationships and negotiate with banks and financial institutions leveraging trade finance best practices across IST in support of commercial activities globally. Working in London you will be part of a global team, providing support across an oil and gas multi-commodity supply and trading organization operating worldwide with the primary focus being Europe and Africa.

Key accountabilities include:

•Structure and execute liquidity and risk cover solutions (trade credit insurance, discounting) in support of commercial transactions
•Lead the negotiating of financing documents, such as bank purchase agreements, prepayment, extended-terms purchase agreements
•Book risk cover with banks and/or insurers as directed by Credit for effective risk mitigation. Ensure cover remains valid by behaviour as a prudent uninsured. Own the process, documentation, and communication internally and externally.
•Seamless and cooperative partnership across the business, including Trading, Origination, Credit, Treasury, Legal and other functional teams.

•Adept at building and maintaining strong, cooperative working relationships across various organizational levels – both internally and with key external partners, counterparties and banks

•Attention to detail / process excellence


•Deep understanding of fundamental credit drivers – particularly for stressed and distressed counterparties, including an understanding of collateral protections and bankruptcy law dynamics.

•Familiarity with credit portfolio management theory and practice and/or secondary credit markets (loans, bonds, CDS) is a plus.

•Capital markets experience, particularly with stressed or distressed companies, in any of the following sectors or geographies a potential plus – Refiners, E&P, Merchant Power, LNG, Asia, Africa, Latin America.

•Letter of credit experience, with emerging markets or L/C financings, is a plus.
•Familiarity with treasury management products is a plus.

•Foreign language proficiency a potential advantage
