Barclays names India trade head

Last Updated May 15, 2012

Former HSBC banker Vivek Gupta is set to join Barclays as India head for trade and working capital.

Gupta was previously at HSBC Singapore where he led its business development team. Before that, he headed the trade finance business for the Indian sub continent at JP Morgan.

Kai Fehr, Barclays managing director and head of trade Asia, says: "Vivek coming on board underlines the importance we place on our India franchise and are confident that he will grow our strong existing business with a focus on core client relationships."

Gupta is one of a number of former trade finance HSBC employees to join Barclays in the last year. Kersi Patel moved to Barclays in January this year to take up the role of head of trade and working capital in the Middle East.

Additionally, former HSBC banker Damian Austin joined Barclays in June 2011 as new global head of trade asset distribution.
