US reinsurance company Energi has released a ‘Risk mitigation reference guide for new energy financing’ to help banks manage the risks involved in funding green energy projects.
The guide provides an overview of green energy industry sub-sectors, including energy efficiency, solar PV, wind, hydro, cogeneration and fuel cell projects, as well as the main risk associated with these, and the products available to mitigate them.
Energi CEO Brian McCarthy says: “Energi has consistently seen that the banking community is excited to fund green energy projects, however, given the lack of historical information and data on project risks and performance, they have been forced to treat projects sceptically and expand their lending capabilities slower than desired.
“The [guide] provides lenders with the adequate risk protection and technical resources to help in the development of thorough underwriting guidelines that will further increase investment in clean energy projects and create economies of scale.”
