Crédit Agricole funds Brazilian telecoms firm

Last Updated January 10, 2011

Crédit Agricole CIB has acted as the sole mandated lead arranger for telecoms firm Nextel Brazil in a US$90mn refinancing deal.

The direct loan has a three month drawdown and an amortisation period of five years, according to a bank memo seen by GTR.

The proceeds will allow Nextel to refinance previously purchased mobile technology and base stations and services from Motorola’s US operations.

The loan had backing from the Export-Import Bank of the Unites States (US Ex-Im).

“It was essential” says a Crédit Agricole spokesperson when describing to GTR the importance of US Ex-Im involvement.
