US Ex-Im considers budget Indian airline plans

Last Updated June 02, 2010

The Export-Import Bank of the United States (US Ex-Im) has announced that it is in preliminary discussions with budget Indian airline carrier SpiceJet, with hopes of a deal being finalised late next year.

The discussions, based on the possible acquisition of two American-made Boeing aircraft, are expected to lead to a deal completion by the end of 2011 or the start of 2012.

Fred Hochberg, chairman and president of US Ex-Im comments only to confirm that the talks are occurring, but will not offer any more details.

If the deal is successful, US Ex-Im will have exposure to three Indian airlines, including Air India and Jet Airways.
