Sberbank in Kazakhstan has joined the EBRD’s trade facilitation programme (TFP) as a confirming bank.
This is the Russian state-owned bank’s first subsidiary to join the programme as a confirming bank outside the Russian Federation.
Russia’s Sberbank joined the TFP programme in 2000, and since then, the EBRD has supported approximately 170 guarantee transactions worth about €150mn.
The EBRD's TFP promotes foreign trade to, from and within the EBRD countries of operation, including Kazakhstan. According to the programme’s 2009 annual results, Kazakhstan ranked fourth among all EBRD countries of operation with 93 TFP transactions, after Russia, Georgia and Ukraine.
