The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the government of the Tianjin municipality in China have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote eco projects.
The MOU will work specifically to increase operations by encouraging Japanese firms’ participation in environmental and energy efficiency projects undertaken in the Chinese municipality.
Both groups have agreed to build an information sharing relationship to improve energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, wastewater treatment and other environmentally sound initiatives.
In a statement, JBIC comments: “The number of environmental and energy efficiency projects has been increasing all over the world, reflecting growing global interest in environmental issues. Japanese firms are also expanding business in this area. JBIC’s strengthened relationship with Tianjin municipality through this MOU is expected to promote Japanese firms’ participation in the municipality’s environment and energy efficiency projects.”
The details of specific deals are yet to be announced, but there are plans for Tianjin municipality to build a resource-recycling economy in its development of a scheme provisionally called “Tianjin Eco-city”.
