Arab and Islamic ECAs gather in Beirut

Last Updated November 04, 2009

Export credit agencies (ECAs) from the Arab and Islamic world gathered in Beirut, Lebanon to discuss developments in the credit and political risk insurance markets.

The event was organised by the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC), part of the Islamic Development Bank, and the Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (Dhaman).

The meeting gathered representatives of ECAs from 20 member countries of ICIEC and Dhaman.

During the two-day event held at the end of October, there were workshops where senior executives from the ECAs discussed their activities and developments within their organisations.

During 2008, the 20 invited Arab and Islamic ECAs provided export credit insurances and guarantees totalling US$13bn, playing a significant role in the development of the Middle Eastern economies.
