EIB to support environmental projects in Mexico

Last Updated March 19, 2008
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending a €50mn credit line to Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior (Bancomext) to support small and medium-sized environmental projects in the private and public sector operators in Mexico.

It is the first EIB intermediated loan in Mexico, and the first transaction to be closed with the Mexican development bank Bancomext.

The main aim of this facility is to part finance projects in both the private and public sectors aimed at protecting or improving the environment.

Eligibility criteria for these projects include tackling climate change, protecting nature, biodiversity and natural resources, improving environment and health, promoting sustainable use of natural resources, including waste management and enhancing urban environment.
