HSBC selects new head of global markets

Last Updated January 11, 2008
HSBC has appointed Samir Assaf as head of global markets. John Flint has also been hired as deputy head of global markets.

Assaf is replacing Mike Powell who is leaving HSBC, although he will continue to be associated with the bank by representing the group on initiatives related to hedge funds and private equity.

Before this latest move, Assaf was head of global markets in EMEA in 2006, and before that he was head of trading for Europe for rates, credit and structured products. He originally joined HSBC France in 1994 from Total where he was head of treasury.

Flint joined HSBC in 1989 and was appointed group treasurer in March 2006. He will continue with this role in addition to his new role as deputy head of global markets.
