US Ex-Im supports power exports to Benin
US Ex-Im is providing insurance for a Californian company exporting electric power generating systems to Benin.
Combustion Associates (CAI) is a small, but expanding company that has won a multi-million dollar sale of eight 10MW electric power generating systems to the West African nation.
Benin's ministry of mines, energy and water will use the generating systems for an 80-megawatt power plant used to mainly burn natural gas. The contract includes providing engineering, construction management, installation, training and post-installation service.
The deal helps fulfil US Ex-Im's mandate to support US jobs, with the project expected to almost double the company’s workforce.
"With the economy slowing down and many empty buildings in this region, this project will keep manufacturing jobs here and also support jobs at our supplier locations in California and elsewhere around the country,” comments CAI’s chief executive officer Mukund Kavia.
US Ex-Im Bank chairman and president James Lambright adds: "Two of US Ex-Im Bank's highest priorities are to strengthen support for US small business exports and US exports to Sub-Saharan Africa.”
