ICC's commission on banking will be focusing on innovation in trade finance during its meeting in Athens in April.
For the first time, the commission will be introducing a series of panel discussions covering innovative trade finance solutions. The talks will be held on the second day of the meeting taking place in Athens between April 15-16.
Over 300 delegates from over 70 countries will be attending. Guy Sebban, ICC secretary general, will be among the attendees.
The first day of the meeting will be reserved for the discussion of various continuing commission projects, including an update on the uniform rules for bank-to-bank reimbursements under documentary credits (URR) and a progress report of the revision of the uniform rules for demand guarantees (URDG).
The second day will feature four panel sessions relating to the theme of innovations in trade finance solutions. The first panel will analyse how the trade finance sector has been affected by the credit crunch. The second panel will look at supply chain finance integration as the next wave of cost improvement for financial organisations.
The third panel will focus on efforts to standardise e-invoicing, and will include representatives from the European commission, as well as the banking industry and services providers.
The final panel will examine regional trends and speakers from Argentina, Greece, Israel, UAE, Ireland and the Czech Republic will give their perspectives on their specific regional market.
Speakers include Christos Folias, Greek minister of development; Gertrude Tumpel-Gugerell, member of the executive board, European Central Bank, Nikolaos Garganas, governor of the Bank of Greece; and Petros Doukas, deputy minister of foreign affairs.
