Mizuho has opened its first global trade finance office in Ho Chi Minh City to develop short-term trade finance business for its large corporate clients.

Nguyen Thi Lan Huong has joined from Techcombank as head of global trade finance in the Ho Chi Minh City branch. She reports to Ho Chi Minh branch manager Taku Ishikawa and to Kaoru Mochizuki, head of Asia and Oceania department, global trade finance division.

“Although there are disruptions coming from the regulations and the law, we see a growth opportunity, a growth potential in Vietnam regarding trade finance, as more and more Japanese companies choose Vietnam as a place for their business,” Mochizuki tells GTR.

The bank, GTR has learned, is also working towards setting up a trade finance desk in Hanoi in August, continuing to expand the business and hiring more staff.
